The New Music Course with Ermis Theodorakis
International Course for Pianists and Composers engaged in Contemporary Music for Piano Solo

The New Music Course with Ermis Theodorakis is a week-long international program for pianists and composers engaged in performance and composition of contemporary works for piano solo. The mentor of the course is pianist and composer Ermis Theodorakis.
The course will take place in Koper, Slovenia, from January 12 to 18, 2026. During this time, participating pianists will receive individual lessons with Ermis Theodorakis focused on contemporary music for solo piano and can choose to perform at a concert at the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music, Biennale Koper on January 16, 2026. Participating composers will take part in individual reading sessions with Ermis Theodorakis, with the possibility of selected works being performed by the mentor at the festival. All participants will also attend fellow participants’ sessions and take part in open discussions and informal gatherings throughout the course.

Format:
- individual lessons with Ermis Theodorakis on contemporary music for piano solo and final concert at the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music Biennale Koper for participating pianists
- individual reading sessions with Ermis Theodorakis for participating composers with possibility of selected works being performed by Ermis Theodorakis at the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music Biennale Koper
- attendance of fellow participants’ individual sessions
- attendance of mentor's lecture
- participation in organised group discussions and gatherings
For:
- pianists and composers engaged in performance and composition of contemporary music for piano solo, at any stage of their academic or artistic development
- applications are welcome from both emerging and established practitioners; no specific level or specialisation is required
it is possible to apply as an auditor
APPLICATION:
The New Music Course with Ermis Theodorakis is a week-long international program for pianists and composers engaged in performance and composition of contemporary works for piano solo.
Participating pianists apply with 1-2 compositions for piano solo of the 20. or 21. century of up to 15 minutes in duration per composition. They receive lessons with the mentor on the chosen repertoire, and present the selected program in the final concert in the frame of the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music Biennale Koper on January 16, 2026.
Participating composers may apply with concluded works as well as with works in progress and receive two reading sessions with the mentor. The mentor may include selected works in the program of his final concert at the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music Biennale Koper on January 18, 2026.
All participating pianists and composers are welcome to join fellow participants’ individual sessions as well as attend the mentor's lecture and participate in organised group discussions and gatherings held within the program. It is also possible to apply as an auditor and attend all the activities stated above.
The course takes place in Koper, Slovenia. The concerts and accompanying activities are a part of the program of the 10th International Festival of Contemporary Music Biennale Koper.
