FESTIVAL
Biennale Koper is an international festival of contemporary music, taking place every two years in Koper since 2008. The festival is organized by the Society of Friends of Music (Društvo prijateljev glasbe) and the Koper Music School (Glasbena šola Koper). The artistic director and initiator of the festival from the very beginning has been Tatjana Jercog, who was later joined by the clarinetist Michele Marelli.
From the start, the festival has been co-created by internationally renowned composers and performers who have enriched Koper and Slovenia in general with the newest approaches in musical creation.
A great deal of attention at the festival is also devoted to education, with workshops for students, as well as offering the performance of repertoire that, despite dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, remains insufficiently known and performed. Biennale Koper is also an opportunity for exchanging opinions, meetings between artists, and above all, an opportunity to encourage the audience through music to actively reflect on contemporary society.
